Hello Parents & Students-
What were our focuses this past week?
- Writing: This week, students jumped into a new writing unit: Opinion/Personal & Persuasive Essays. Though very different from the realistic fiction writing students had completed previously, their knowledge and abilities to write in this new genre is already shining through! New this week: we started "Word Work Fridays!" During this time, students focused on the important writing skill of word building by focusing on prefixes, suffixes, and root words.
- Reading: Continuing on in our nonfiction Unit 2, students focused this week on tackling tricky vocabulary, summarizing, and identifying main idea and key details.
- Math: Topics covered this week in math-
- 4.1: Multiplicative comparison + multi-step word problems involving any of the 4 operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
- 4.2: Measuring angles, introducing protractors, and drawing angles
- 5.1: Representing decimals, placing decimals on a number line, and decomposing decimals
- Social Studies: After finishing their study of the American Revolution, students are working to showcase their knowledge by creating a timeline. Their timeline will include 5 main events from the American Revolution as well as 5 key figures.
