We hope you had a great weekend! We have lots of updates and exciting events this week in fourth grade! There are still some slots open for conference sign-ups- please look under the Conference tab to sign up for a time to come in and discuss your child’s progress. If these times don’t work, you can send an email to your child's teacher and we will be happy to work something out with you! :)
Some General Reminders:
- ITBS: New Prospect’s third and fifth graders will participate in standardized testing the week of October 19 - 23. Along with other third and fifth graders throughout the county, they will take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills over that five day period. The testing is generally completed by 11:30 a.m. each day. We cannot have any parent volunteers in the building during ITBS testing because the entire school works to provide the optimum testing environment for our third and fifth graders. The lunch schedule will also be altered during that week, and we ask that parents not come to lunch the week of ITBS. Many of the lunch times occur before testing is finished for the day and parents would not be allowed in the building until after the “testing is complete” announcement is made. We appreciate your understanding and we welcome you back after testing! :)
- Science Lab: 4th grade will have our first science lab of the school year the week of October 12th! Our full schedule is below :) This lab will focus on Stars and Planets in correlation with our upcoming science unit, Unit 3: Stars, Star Patterns, and Planets. THANK YOU for such the wonderful response we have recieved in terms of volunteers - we literally cannot do this with out you! There are still a few slots available, so please check out so please consider signing up on the New Prospect PTA website in order to help out! - Writing Celebration on FRIDAY! We plan on having a Writing Celebration for our fourth grade students at the end of this week. We have finished our personal narrative unit, and students will now have the opportunity to celebrate all of the hard work they have put into this writing piece! The most important part of this Celebration is for the students to share their amazing work with one another. In addition, we thought it would be fun to have some snacks and refreshments to include in the Celebration! If you would be able to send in something with your child for the whole class to enjoy on this day, we would really appreciate it! We have created a sign up for all of our classes using the following link:

-Math Donations: If you have any newspapers and/or blank checkbook registers at home, Mrs. Alterman and Ms. Getzfred would happily take them off of your hands! We are both currently teaching a decimal unit, and we have some really great ‘real world’ activities for our students lined up and these extra supplies would really help enhance these activities. Any donations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!
-Technology: Last but not least, now that we are in full swing of our school year, stations are becoming a consistent part of our daily routine in our math block and reading block. Often, we have lots of educational videos or books that will read aloud to students available on our school computers and devices that require headphones so they do not distract others around them while watching or reading. If your child has headphones from home that they would like to bring in for this use, it would be very beneficial for them as they are then able to listen individually. Please know that your child will be the only one to use their own headphones, similar to our BYOT policy.
