We are in the home stretch- one more week to go until break! Thank you for all you have done to support your children and us! We appreciate you!! :)
Some General Reminders and Announcements:
- Project Based Learning: We are introducing some Project Based Learning (PBL) concepts into our science curriculum. PBL is a part of our school wide Strategic Plan and promotes authentic learning opportunities through challenging tasks and projects. Please check out our PBL tab on our Weebly page to learn more at http://fourthgradenpes.weebly.com/project-based-learning.html as we are really excited to roll these opportunities out to our students in the classroom!
- Writing Celebration: On Wednesday, we will have a Writing Celebration for our published opinion pieces that we have worked so hard on this quarter! They will be coming home at the end of the week for your child to share with you.
- Winter Party: On Friday, we are having our fourth grade Winter Party from 12:30-2:00. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help with this and who have done such a fabulous job of putting everything together for it- we are all so looking forward to it!
- Spelling Bee: Spelling Bees will be held in each homeroom on the afternoon of Friday, January 8th. Students will receive a word list by the end of this week, but please do not feel obligated at all to spend tons of time studying for it. The winner from each fourth grade homeroom will participate in the school wide spelling bee which will be held on January 20th.
- Georgia Milestones Scores: Last Thursday, students came home with a sealed envelope that has their Georgia Milestones scores from third grade, as well as a detailed letter from Mrs. Robson explaining the test and scores. Please keep in mind that the Georgia Milestones is much more rigorous and in depth than CRCT, so scores may be dramatically different. These scores should be looked at as a baseline for progress we expect in the future for each child, and help us to learn more about our students and where their areas of strength and weakness are.
- Dear George Washington Contest: The Dear George Washington Contest is an annual writing contest for Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School students in grades 2–5. The contest introduces them to the issues facing early Americans and encourages them to think critically about the founding of the nation.
Each student writes a letter (250–300 words) to President George Washington telling the President what to focus on during his first term. This is a fun, optional activity communicated to us by our TAG teachers. Please let your homeroom teacher know if you would like more information!
