Happy Winter Break! We had a fun week full of hard work and some holiday fun!
What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
Writing: Students worked hard to finish their argumentative essays this week! When we return from break, we will begin a new unit!
Reading: We read an argumentative & procedural text and worked on finding text structure and author’s perspective. When we return from break, we will jump into our next unit!
Math: Unit 4 study guides went home today! We wanted to give them plenty of time to work on it and practice. When we return from break, we will work on reviewing for the test.

4.2 (Ms. Smith): When we return from Winter Break, we will begin our first 5th grade unit- Order of Operations!
In this unit, students will first learn order of operations to solve expressions.
Next, we will extend what students learned in 4th grade math about place value and powers of ten.
Finally, we will multiply 3-digit by 2-digit numbers and divide 4-digit by 2-digit numbers.
*While knowing different strategies for solving multiplication and division is great, students will be encouraged to master the standard algorithm for solving:)
