What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
- Writing: Students finished and published their expository essays! They really improved on their elaboration. Next week, we will be going back to writing argumentative essays, so it is a great way to improve their essay writing skills. We will start by looking at the rubric, analyzing a student model, and collecting evidence to support their claim.
- Reading: We finished unit 2 and are moving into unit 3! We will start the unit by reading realistic fiction and focusing on the skills of point of view and perspective, diving deeper into plot by using flashbacks, and describing characters, setting, and events in depth.
- Math: This week we started unit 3: Fractions! We are off to a great start! We focused on equivalent fractions and next week, we will work on comparing fractions. This is a very short unit, so the unit 3 test will be on Monday 11/7.

- 4.2 (Ms. Smith): Next week in advanced math...
We will start Unit 7: Measurement!
This unit has a lot of standards, so we will work on it for the remainder of the semester.
Next week, we will begin our work with MD.1. For this standard, students will learn how to convert larger units to smaller units within the same measurement system. They will practice this within the metric system and the customary system. using multiplication and 2-column tables.
*The MD.2 standard is embedded throughout a few of our units this year. We will incorporate it into each week's lessons.
