Panther Pages & PJs for Read Across America Day!
Panther Pages & PJs is our schoolwide celebration for Read Across America Day on Thursday, March 2. Everyone can wear their PJs that day, and students will get to "shop" for a book to keep. A member of Admin will also be coming to your class to read!
What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
Writing: This week we worked on writing a strong introduction, analyzed a new prompt, and read 2 sources on the topic to prepare for writing our expository essay. Next week, we will work together to gather evidence to plan out the essay, stay focused on the topic, and write the introduction, supporting body paragraphs with text evidence and elaboration, and a strong conclusion.
Reading: This week we finished narrative nonfiction and started reading an expository text with a focus on text structure and finding the central idea (main idea) of a text and relevant details. Next week, we will dive back into historical fiction and celebrate Read Across American Day on Thursday!
Math: This week we started our Geometry unit and focused identifying points, lines, line and segments. We classified parallel, perpendicular, and intersecting lines as well as acute, right, and obtuse angles. Next week, we will focus on this standard: 4.G.2 Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category and identify right triangles.
This unit is heavy vocabulary, so it is important to practice!

4.2 (Ms. Smith): Next week in advanced math...
We will be working with adding and subtracting decimals (NBT.7).
For this standard, students need to be able to add/subtract decimals to the hundredths place.
This is a short unit, and our test is scheduled for 3/10, so study guides will be coming home next Friday. As always, I will also be assigning iReady lessons to help students prepare for the test.
