Below you will find current unit information for all subjects, this week's lesson plans, and any 'need to know' information for the week. Parents, if you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher. We hope you have a great week!

Current Unit Information:
- 4.1 Math - Unit 4 : Adding and Subtracting Fractions
- This week we will continue working on adding fractions and mixed numbers, as well as transition to subtracting fractions towards the end of the week.
- 4.2 Math - Unit 1 (5th Grade) : Order of Operations.
- This week we will continue working on solving multi-digit multiplication problems using the standard algorithm. Then, we will move on to using division strategies to solve division problems with 1 and 2-digit divisors.
- 5.1 Math - Unit 4 : Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
- This week we will continue working on subtracting mixed number with unlike denominators, and then we will transition to multiplying fractions by whole numbers and fractions by the end of the week.
- Social Studies - Unit 3: Westward Expansion.
- This week will be learning all about the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, and The Acquisition of Texas.
- Reading - Unit 4: Reading History (non-fiction/history)
- During this unit, we are learning about how to specifically read/research historical topics, since the approach in reading/researching history is different than other non-fiction topics. Research in reading supports our writing unit.
- Writing - Unit 4: Bringing History to Life (informational writing)
- During this unit, we are learning how to write informational books. We start with topics we are already experts in, and then move on to topics we have learned about/may have to do additional research on (in this case, students will research American Revolution topics and write a chapter book about their chosen topic).

- No School on Monday: Please remember that Monday, January 18th there is no school in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Enjoy your 3 day weekend!
- Grading Update from FCS: This semester the district will go back to policy IHA with two exceptions. Additionally, formative and summative weights have been defined for Semester 2. All information can be found below :)
Recovery
All students will have one (1) attempt to redo/retake summative assignments
Eligibility for a redo/retake is for students who receive a 79 or below
Students are eligible to earn a replacement grade on a redo/retake no higher than 79
Student redo/retakes must be completed before the next summative assessment is given or 5 school days before the end of a marking period if there is not another summative assessment given (exceptions can be made for students who have excused absences during this five-day window)
Incompletes
FCS will adopt a NO ZERO policy for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year
Students with missing assignments will be given an Incomplete (I)
Students who have not completed 80% of their summative assessments will be given an Incomplete (I) for the marking period
2 weeks before the end of the grading period, enter 50% for any incompletes.
Weights
Summative Assessments (Tests, Projects) 60% and Formative Assessments (Classwork and Quizzes) 40%.
- Feedback on Assignments: All 4th grade teachers are providing feedback on student assignments while they are working on them (if they are a long-range assignment) and/or after the assignment is due. Your child should be able to guide you to where they have received feedback within their assignments in Teams. If your child's teacher has a different process in which they provide feedback to students, they will include details via email.
