What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
- Writing: We continued diving into expository essays this week! Together we organized ideas for the essay in a graphic organizer then started to write our expository essay as a class. Next week, students will analyze a new prompt and begin reading their sources to collect evidence. This will be more independent.
- Reading: We started reading dramas this week, and the kids are loving them!! So much great fluency as they read and follow the stage directions. We are working on finding the story elements and looking for clues to what the theme is. Next week, we will do MAP testing in reading.
- Math: Next week we will work on long division. MGSE4.NBT.6 Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models. Review Packets will go home on Friday.
- We highly recommend they practice their math and division facts at home during this unit.

MAP Testing:
This year, our 2nd and 4th grade students will be taking the MAP Growth assessment, which is a computer-adaptive test that measures skills in Reading and Math. Students will take this assessment with their homeroom classes over the course of the next three weeks, beginning next Monday, October 3rd. Please see attached flyer with details about the assessment!
There is nothing you need to do to prepare your child before the assessment. We will simply encourage all students to try their best! Teachers will be able to use the results of the test to help inform instruction, personalize learning, and monitor the growth of individual students. MAP Growth will not be used as part of your child's grade.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions about the MAP Growth assessment!
