What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
- Writing: We started expository essays this week! We started by looking at the rubric, learning about expository essays, and analyzing a student model. Next week, we will analyze the sources the student model used to write their essay and then analyze the prompt the students will be writing about as well as start to collect evidence by reading a few relevant sources.
- Reading: We continued to work on finding the central idea (main idea) and relevant details (key details) and text features in an expository text. We read two expository texts: one on animal adaptations and the other on spiders. Next week, we will finish up our Spider expository text then change gears and read a folklore. We will focus on character traits and character development.
- Math: This week your child will be learning more about how we can use multiplication to compare. For example, 12 is 3 times as many as 4 or 12 is 4 times as many as 3. We can apply this to real world comparison such as, Jacob has 4 Pokemon cards. Aria has 4 times as many. That means Aria has 12. We will also be learning strategies to multiple one by two digit numbers.
- We highly recommend they practice their math and division facts at home during this unit.
