Hello Parents & Students
Taste of New Prospect is TONIGHT from 6-7:30
Join us in the parking lot behind the school to travel the world and celebrate our cultures. We will have country presentations, food tastings, entertainment, and prizes. It is Friday November 4th at 6:00-7:30. It is an amazing event!
Remote Learning Day (November 8th):
Work will be sent home on Monday November 7th for students to complete at home during the remote learning day on November 8th! Attached to the front will be a choice board of assignments students “Must do” and assignments students “May do.” These will be due on Wednesday November 9th.
Laptops and Tech Support:
Our students in grades 3-5 have now been issued laptops to use at school. These laptops should be taken home daily to charge, and all students should login and practice using their device and/or Microsoft Teams prior to the remote day Nov. 8th. Occasionally a device will need tech support and students will turn the device in to the Media Center to receive a replacement. We are waiting on delivery of replacement devices for several students. If devices need support at home, parents may call the FCS Technology Helpdesk to ask questions. At the bottom, is the helpdesk phone number and hours in all communication regarding the remote learning day.
If devices prevent students from completing classwork at home, teachers will allow time at school for completion of assignments.
Spelling Bee:
“ The New Prospect Spelling Bee will be held on Monday, December 5th at 8:00 AM. 4th grade will conduct a classroom spelling bee on November 16th at 9:45 am to determine a winner and runner-up to represent each class. The winners of the class bees will advance and have the opportunity to compete in the New Prospect Spelling Bee. The winner of the school bee will go on to represent New Prospect at the Fulton County Spelling Bee on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 8:30 AM (location TBD). Your child’s teacher has explained this to the class and offered spelling study lists to the students if they are interested in studying for the classroom and school bees. Participation is not required. If you would like a copy of the School Spelling Bee Study List and grade level study words, please reach out to your child’s teacher to send home a copy. If you have any further questions regarding the New Prospect Spelling Bee, please contact our Assistant Principal, Margaret Moore, at [email protected].”

What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
- Writing: We returned to writing argumentative essays this week! We started by looking at the rubric, analyzing a student model, and the sources the student used to cite text evidence. Next week, students will analyze a prompt, read three sources, collect evidence, and start to organize their evidence in a graphic organizer.
- Reading: We focused on the skills of point of view and perspective, dove deeper into plot by using flashbacks, and describing characters, setting, and events in depth. Next week, we will continue with realistic fiction skills with focus on character development. We will also start reading expository text and practice text structure with practice in text structure and finding central ideas and key details.
- Math: This week continued to work with finding equivalent fractions. We focused on explaining why two or more fractions are equivalent with visual models to generate them. We also started comparing two fractions with different numerators and denominators by using visual models. Next week, we will continue comparing fractions then start reviewing. Study Guides will go home on Monday as the remote learning work. The unit 3 test will be on Monday 11/14.
