What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
Supplies for Art:
Ms. Spencer has kindly asked if students could donate some wipes to the art room as her supply has diminished quickly from cleaning up some recent art projects. Hand wipes/ baby wipes and Clorox wipes are both needed! 😊
Writing: We finished reading our sources and organizing their ideas in a graphic organizer. Next week, we will start drafting their argumentative essays. We will work on grabbing the readers attention in our introduction, use a counterargument, write to your audience, and conclude with a summary.
Reading: This week we worked on realistic fiction skills with focus on character development. We also started reading an expository text and practiced text structure and finding central ideas and key details. Next week, we will focus on the genre of reading biographies. We will spend time working with author’s perspective in an expository text.
Math: We finished up Unit 3 this week, and the students will take their test on Monday 11/14. Next week, we will continue with fraction in Unit 4. Students will decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each as an equation and justifying them .We will solve word problems involving addition of fractions referring to the same whole number and having denominators by using visual fraction models and equations and understand addition of fractions as joining or separating parts referring to the same whole. Lastly, we will add mixed numbers with like denominators, by replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction and/or by using properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.

4.2 (Ms. Smith): First, we will dig into MD.3. For this standard, students not only need to know how to find the area and perimeter of rectangular figures, but they also need to be able to find missing length/widths when the area/perimeter is given.
Next, we will dig into MD.8. For this standard, students need to understand how to find the area of rectilinear shapes by decomposing shapes into rectangles and adding the parts together.
Finally, we will start working on our MD.4 standard. For this standard, students will make line plots to display information and will solve problems using the information in line plots.
