What are we learning this week?
Math
Enhanced
This week, we are getting into our final math unit of the year, Unit 6: Geometric and Spatial Reasoning. Our main focuses this week will be points and lines, quadrilaterals, angles in polygons, and angles in triangles. Our target standards this week are 4.GSR.8.1 (Explore, investigate, and draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and lines of symmetry. Identify these in two-dimensional figures.) and 4.GSR.8.2 (Classify, compare, and contrast polygons based on lines of symmetry, the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular line segments, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size and based on side lengths.) Students will have a practice grade on Friday over the properties of polygons.

Social Studies
On Monday, we will discuss the effects of The Civil War on the North and South. The rest of the week in Social Studies will be project work time for students. They are creating either a Powerpoint or poster showing what they have learned from this unit. Students will have this week and two more days after Spring Break to complete this project.
Reading
This week, we will start reviewing for Milestones and share test taking strategies. Students will be using iReady Milestone Practice Assessments through both whole group collaboration and independently. In the beginning of the week, we will sharpen our inferencing skills of literary texts. Later on in the week, we will take a look at figurative language and word relationships. We will also review language and grammar questions. We will practice multiple choice questions, as well as constructed response.
Standards we will focus on this week:
ELAGSE4RL1: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
ELAGSE4L5: Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings.
Writing
Students will begin writing a new opinion essay this week. The prompt is: "Do you think elementary students should have cell phones?" Students will read and analyze two sources to determine whether they think elementary students should have cell phones or not. Throughout the week, students will have analyzed the prompt, read sources to make their opinion, plan, and begin writing their essay. They should have written their introduction and first body paragraph by the end of this week.
