Milestones Practice Test (to stress the network and assess technology needs!)
Wednesday March 22nd all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students are going to participate in a Milestones stress (practice) test that will stress the wireless network and DRC insight platform. This will also serve as a wonderful opportunity for students to experience the test and become familiar with the tools on the test. Students will be taking the secure practice test in a testing like environment.
This is NOT for a grade, so there is no need to stress! It is, however, important that students come to school with a fully charged device on Wednesday.
Fun Run Fundraiser!
This year, as a school, we are raising $25,000 for playground enhancements, a book vending machine birthday books, and a cart of laptops! Please follow the steps to register today!
What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
Writing: This week, students gathered text evidence to support their topic of how to survive a hurricane. We worked on paraphrasing and quoting text evidence and learned the difference between the two as students began to write their essays. Next week, students will continue their essays while learning more about the difference between evidence vs. elaboration and how to use both effectively.
Reading: This week we continued with reading poetry. We determined a poem's structure to understand narrative poetry, used literary elements to read and understand narrative poetry and identified the theme. Next week, we will read a social studies and science text focusing on main idea and key details as well as read a biography and work on summarizing. We will take our Unit 5 test on Friday.
Math: This week we reviewed for the Unit 6 math test and students took the test today! Next week we will start Unit 7, which is our last unit! It is on measurement. We will start with
MGSE4.MD.1, Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. and
MGSE4.MD.2, Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.
As we prepare for Ga Milestones, it is important students are completing their homework for extra practice.

Toward the end of the week, we will start working on dividing decimals (NBT.7). Students need to know how to divide whole numbers by decimals, as well as decimals by decimals (to the hundredths).
Since our test is on March 31st, students will receive their study guides on March 24th, and I will have new iReady lessons assigned to help them review:)
