5.1 Math - Unit 6: Volume & Measurement
- This week we will dive into our new unit, Unit 6: Volume and Measurement. The unit is in 2 chunks - the first half of of the unit will be all about volume (it's an easy transition to go from talking about 2D figures now to 3D figures!). The second half of the unit will focus on our measurement standards (such as metric and customary conversions). This week we will focus on learning all about volume - what it represents, how we determine and model a figure's volume, and the formula for volume.
Social Studies - Unit 4: The Civil War
- This week in our Civil War unit we be pausing our mini lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday to start our Civil War Project. We have already learned about the causes of the Civil War, and will take Tuesday and Wednesday to demonstrate our knowledge on our project. Then, on Thursday and Friday we will move on into learning about how the Civil War began.
- *We will revisit our Civil War project many times throughout the unit to 'add on' on our new understandings about various events, battles, and key figures.
Reading - 🏀March Madness (Test Prep/Author Study Unit)
- This week we will be starting March Madness in reader's workshop, too! This is a time where teachers will be 'coaching' students, and students will be participating in 'drills' to practice various 4th grade reading skills in preparation for the 'big game' (Milestones). We do not stress and/or reference Milestones often in class, but we DO remind students that this is a time where we practice and sharpen our skills to be the best fourth grader scholars we can be! Our coaching focus this week is on point of view, supporting the main idea with evidence, and text structure.
Writing - 🏀March Madness (Test Prep/Author Study Unit)
- This week we will wrap up our first project for March Madness: Meet the Author! Students are working hard on their Author Brochure, which is due on Thursday. We will start Project 2: Second Chance, on Friday!
