What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
Writing: This week we started drafting our stories and worked on adding vivid details and introducing conflict. Next week, we will continue to draft and work on resolving the conflict as well as creating strong characters, a vivid setting, and developing an interesting plot.
Reading: This week we started reading historical fiction. Next week, we will continue to read historical fiction and focus on how theme is revealed throughout the story through details and then the theme is what the reader learns about life from the story. We will also learn about real events in history through historical fiction.
Math: This week we started showing how we can take fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 and represent them as a decimal. We focused on the standard: MGSE4.NF.6 Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or 100. For example, rewrite 0.62 as 62/100; describe a length as 0.62 meters; locate 0.62 on a number line diagram. Next week, we will continue to work with decimal notation and begin the standard: MGSE4.NF.7 Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <

4.2 (Ms. Smith): Next week in advanced math...
We will work with the NBT.2 standard. For this standard, students will explore powers of 10. They will need to understand the pattern of zeros that result when multiplying by a power of 10 as well as understanding how a decimal point moves when multiplying or dividing by a power of 10.
