Hello Parents & Students,
Remote Learning Day (January 17th):
Work was sent home for students to complete at home during the remote learning day on Tuesday January 17th. Attached to the front of the packet will be a choice board of assignments students “Must do” and assignments students “May do.” These will be due on Wednesday January 18th.
Write Score:
Next Wednesday, January 18th, our students will take the Write Score assessment. There is nothing you or your child need to do to prepare for this assessment! Please see the graphic below for some additional details about Write Score.
Writing: We worked on planning our fictional narrative piece by creating a character, developing the setting, and planning the sequence of events. Next week, we will start drafting our stories and work on adding vivid details and introducing conflict.
Reading: This week we finished reading another narrative nonfiction and focused on the skills of finding the central idea and key details, locating and using text features, and understanding author’s craft and purpose. We also started reading some myths as we jumped into a new genre. This helped us practice cause and effect, making inferences, summarizing, and understanding the importance of characters and plot. Next week, we will take the Write Score assessment on Wednesday and then start reading a historical fiction text.
Math: This week we started with the standard: MGSE4.NF.5 Express a fraction with denominator 10 as an equivalent fraction with denominator 100 and use this technique to add two fractions with respective denominators 10 and 100. The kids did an amazing job! Next week, we will start showing how we can take fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 and represent them as a decimal. We will focus on this standard: MGSE4.NF.6 Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or 100. For example, rewrite 0.62 as 62/100; describe a length as 0.62 meters; locate 0.62 on a number line diagram.

4.2 (Ms. Smith): Next week in advanced math...
We will continue our work with NBT.1. In this standard, students need to only understand that a digit in any place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right, but also that it represents 1/10 of what it represents to its left.
