**NO SCHOOL FRIDAY (2/18) TEACHER WORK DAY & MONDAY (2/21) PRESIDENT'S DAY**
Hello Parents & Students-
What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
- Writing: Students will begin a new narrative writing unit. This first week, students will focus on "sketching the scene" (planning), narrative beginnings, types of sentences, and making sentences shine!
- Reading: We will be continuing Unit 5: Reading Historical Fiction.
- Standards focused on this week/throughout the unit:
- RL3[3.0_1]: Describe in depth a character in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character's thoughts, words, or actions)
- RL3[3.0_3]: Describe in depth an event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text
- RL2[3.0_2]: Summarize the text
- RL2 [3.0_1] Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text
- RL6 [3.0_1] Compare and contrast the point of view from which different stories are narrated
- • RL6 [3.0_2] Compare and contrast the difference between first and third-person narrations in different stories
- Standards focused on this week/throughout the unit:
- Math:
- 4.1: Unit 5: Fractions & Decimals
- **UNIT 5 TEST- FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25**
- Standards throughout the unit:
- MGSE4.NF.5 Express a fraction with denominator 10 as an equivalent fraction with denominator 100, and use this technique to add two fractions with respective denominators 10 and 100. For example, express 3/10 as 30/100, and add 3/10 + 4/100 = 34/1001.
- MGSE4.NF.6 Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or 100. For example, rewrite 0.62 as 62/100; describe a length as 0.62 meters; locate 0.62 on a number line diagram.
- MGSE4.NF.7 Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same whole. Record the results of the comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g. by using a visual model.
- Standards throughout the unit:
- 4.2 (Ms. Smith): Unit 3: Multiplying & Dividing with Decimals
- MGSE5.NBT.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
