What are we focusing on this week?
- Writing: Students will continue drafting their literary essays.
- Reading: This week, we will be focusing on the following reading standards:
- RL2 [3.0_2]: Summarize the text
- RL2 [3.0_1] Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text
- **UNIT 3 TEST: WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 15**
- Math:
- 4.1: Begin Unit 4- Operations with Fractions
- MGSE4.NF.3 Understand a fraction 𝑎/𝑏 with a numerator >1 as a sum of unit fractions 1𝑏.
- a. Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.
- b. Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decompositions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8 ; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8.
- c. Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators, e.g., by replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction, and/or by using properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
- d. Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole and having like denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem.
- MGSE4.NF.3 Understand a fraction 𝑎/𝑏 with a numerator >1 as a sum of unit fractions 1𝑏.

- Continuous Achievement Information:
- Over the next 3 weeks our Curriculum Support Teacher, Diana Zarzour, will be screening every student in the school to ensure they are in the most appropriate placement. She will be reviewing a variety of data points on every child to determine if any adjusts need to be made to continuous achievement levels for Math and Reading/Writing. As a parent- there is nothing you need to do! She will contact you directly if your child is recommended to move placement levels or needs to have a class change due to a teacher change in levels taught the week of Dec. 13th. If you have any questions about this please contact her directly at [email protected]
- iReady Testing Results: We will be sending home the iReady Parent Reports in Thursday Folders on January 6th as we need to wait until the testing window has closed before we can communicate final scores. These are a mid-year check for us as a school, and us as teachers to help guide our instructional planning. You do not need to do anything with these reports, but we just want to be transparent when a student takes a test how they perform on that one indicator. This is not a grade but just a check point.
