We had an AWESOME first week back! We can tell this is going to be a great year with a wonderful group of kids.
What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
- Writing: We are jumping into argumentative writing! We will be looking at student models, analyzing sources, organizing ideas, and learning how to determine relevant evidence to support our claim.
- Reading: We will be starting with informational texts and diving into the essential question: How do people respond to natural disasters? We will start by reading Earthquakes and Weathering the Storm and focusing on the standards RI5 (Describe the overall structure (e.g., chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text or part of a text.) and RI7 (Interpret information presented visually, orally, or quantitatively (e.g., in charts, graphs, diagrams, time lines, animations, or interactive elements on Web pages) and explain how the information contributes to an understanding of the text in which it appears).
- Math: Students will learn about our Math workshop routines and process. We will begin looking at place-values and how we can organize whole numbers. We will take the I-Ready math Diagnostic on Monday. Click here to see the 4.1 blog - http://fourthgradenpes.weebly.com/current-41-math-info
- 4.2 (Ms. Smith): Next week, we will specifically focus on NF.5. Students will learn to express equivalent fractions with denominators of 10 and 100 in order to add fractions with like denominators.
