What are we learning this week?
Math
Enhanced
This week, we will continue our final math unit of the year, Unit 6: Reasoning with Shapes. In the beginning of the week, we will continue to explore and practice area and perimeter. Later in the week, we will go over the study guide and clear up any misconceptions students may have. The study guide and standards for this unit are posted under the Math section of our blog. On Friday, students will take their test for this unit.
Our target standard this week is: 4.GSR.8.3 Solve problems involving area and perimeter of composite rectangles involving whole numbers with known side lengths.

Science
This week, we will continue our new Science unit on Ecosystems (Unit 6). Our main focuses will be to prepare for the Spring Showcase on Thursday, and we will take part in the Earth Day Protect Our Species Campaign. Students will research a species and create a poster for a major grade. Later in the week, students will begin their food web group assignment for a practice grade.
Reading
This week, we will continue Milestones Review and share test taking strategies. Students will be using iReady Milestone Practice Assessments through both whole group collaboration and independently. On Monday and Tuesday, students will review integration of information from two texts. On Wednesday and Thursday, students will take their iReady Reading Diagnostics. On Friday, students will review language and grammar questions as a class.
Standard of focus this week:
ELAGSE4RI9: Integrate information from two texts on the same topic in order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.
Writing
On Monday and Tuesday, students will continue to write their narrative extended constructed response they started last Friday. Due to the iReady Diagnostic, we will be doing reading during writing on Wednesday to prepare for our narrative response. On Thursday and Friday, students will write a narrative extended constructed response off of an informational text.

2024-25 Class Placement Considerations
This May we will begin to hold our placement meetings to create classes for the next school year. We value your input as parents and want to consider the whole child when creating classes. If you want to provide feedback on the type of classroom environment you feel your child would do best in, feel free to fill out this optional survey from Mrs. Zarzour. She will be taking feedback until May 10th that she will consider as a part of our school process. This feedback is private and only necessary information is shared with us as teachers.

iReady Diagnostics
On April 24th & 25th, fourth grade will begin to take our end of the year iReady Diagnostic assessments in Reading and on May 13th & 14th in Math.
These tests are nationally normed and will provide us with a snapshot of all they have learned this school year! Unlike GA Milestones, it is not limited to just the grade level standards and is a K-8 adaptive assessment. This allows us to see the full depth of a student's understanding.
This assessment is one of the things Mrs. Zarzour considers when looking at what advanced courses or supports a student may need next fall. Please encourage your child to do their very best on this assessment as it is an important end of the year assessment to show all of their growth.
