From our CST Mrs. Zarzour:
As the school year comes to an end, we are going to be making classes for next school year in May. While the teachers and administrators will be deciding the classes, we also respect parent input as a part of the process to consider. If you would like to provide feedback on the type of classroom environment you feel your child thrives in or other considerations, please complete this form by April 28th for it to be considered in our student placement. Thank you!

What are we focusing on this upcoming week?
Writing: The next few weeks leading up to Milestones, we will be preparing for the three types of writing they may be expected to do on Milestones: an informational and opinion essay and a narrative extended constructed response off a story. This week we focused on writing an opinion essay based on two passages. We worked on one as a class and then the students had a chance to try on their own. Students will read a story and then be asked to write a new ending or rewrite the story but from another perspective.
Reading: This week we started to prepare for Milestones. We started by reading many different genres of passages and answering various multiple-choice questions as well as short constructed responses. We are working on many test taking strategies as well. Next week we will continue to read various genres of text for students to practice and prepare. We are reviewing all of the standards previously taught!
Math: This week we continued to work on area and perimeter. We worked on finding the area of rectilinear figures and then started to practice reading and analyzing line plots. Next week we will finish up line plots and move into understanding degrees of angles and how to measure them using protractors.
MGSE4.MD.5.a, An angle is measured with reference to a circle with its center at the common endpoint of the rays, by considering the fraction of the circular arc between the points where the two rays intersect the circle. An angle that turns through 1/360 of a circle is called a "one-degree angle," and can be used to measure angles.,
MGSE4.MD.5.b, An angle that turns through n one-degree angles is said to have an angle measure of n degrees.
MGSE4.MD.6, Measure angles in whole-number degrees using a protractor. Sketch angles of specified measure.
As we prepare for Ga Milestones, it is important students are completing their homework for extra practice.
4.2 (Ms. Smith): Next week in advanced math...
Next week in advanced math...
We will continue our work with adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, but we will be extending our work with mixed numbers (NF.1 & NF.2). Later in the week, we will practice with the NF.3 standard, where students need to understand that a/b is equal to a divided by b.
