We hope you had a wonderful, restful 3 day weekend! The kids came back refreshed and ready for a great week!
A Special Message from Guidance!
It's College Week at NPES!! The purpose of facilitating College Week at New Prospect is to provide information about post-secondary education to our students and help them build the connection between their current studies and options available to them in the future. We want to help our students be “college and career ready,” foster an interest in different colleges and universities, and also allow staff members to have fun celebrating the start of college football season!
*This week we will have a Door-decorating contest for all classes!
- Staff members and students decorate classroom or office doors displaying the colleges they attended or a college you currently cheer for.
- Doors will be judged on FRIDAY 9/11 in the morning based on creativity, information provided and student involvement.
- Winners be announced on the news on the following Monday morning, and there will be prizes awarded!
*College Spirit Wear: This week, students are encourage to wear their college spirit wear (teachers will be wearing theirs on Friday!) STUDENTS- IF YOU WEAR YOUR COLLEGE SPIRIT WEAR, YOUR HOMEROOM TEACHER WILL AWARD YOU 2 DOJO POINTS (make sure to mention you saw the blog post!). You can earn 2 points each time you wear your spirit wear!
Some General Reminders:
- BYOT has officially started! Permission forms went home last week, and as long as a student had turned in their permission for they are free to start bringing in their devices. Please remember, these devices are not used to access social media. We use our iPad's a TON for research (we have 3 computers and 5 class iPad's, so extra devices really help in this department, especially for our informational writing and science/social studies units), accessing the Weebly for our technology stations within reading and math, we use various apps such as Dictionary.com, Brain Pop, IXL etc., devices allow for individual personalized review based on weaknesses, students create their own presentations on current concepts to teach content, graphic organizer websites assist in the drafting stage of the writing process, e-readers are used independent reading, and the list could go on and on. Devices help enhance our curriculum, and bring extra resources to our students they may otherwise not have access too. Of course, your child does not have to bring their device as we do have 3 computers and 5 class iPad's and we do our best to share those :)
Additionally, when student's bring their devices they are not allowed to use their personal data. Students immediately put their devices on airplane mode, and must log into our school wifi, which ensures that students are in a protected network. This prevents text, emails, and calls from coming through, and family data plans remain untouched.
If you have any additional BYOT questions, please refer back to the BYOT page or contact your child's homeroom teacher.
-Agendas should signed on Tuesday this week, we will check for signatures tomorrow!
