Some General Reminders:
- Report Cards: Report cards went home today :) Our hope is that all kids have their signed envelopes turned in by Friday at the latest as we reuse these envelopes every quarter. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter!
- Online Permission Form: Please make sure you return the FCS-mandated Online Permission Forms as soon as possible. These must be returned so that your child may have permission to their own account for the many valuable online resources that we use, such as IXL and RAZ-Kids. Thank you!
- Science Lab: We had SUCH a wonderful turnout for Science Lab!! Thank you to ALL the volunteers who took out time to come and teach the kiddos about the stars and planets! It was a wonderful preview for their upcoming science unit that starts this week! Please keep an eye out for the next round of Science Lab sign ups!
- Social Studies Potlatch: Thank you again for all those attended and donated food items for our Potlatch!! It was a HUGE success and the kids absolutely loved presenting for you!! We look forward to doing this again, soon! :)
- Girls Night Out!: Girls’ Night Out at New Prospect for 4th and 5th Grade Girls: According to recent research, girls are now more likely than boys to be bullied in schools. Bullying between girls often looks different from traditional bullying and can take the form of relation aggression, such as exclusion, isolation, spreading rumors, gossiping, sarcasm, pitting friends against one another, or revealing personal secrets. Relational aggression has become a much more prevalent issue due to Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social networking. Girls who have been the victim of relational aggression can suffer long-lasting effects (academic withdrawal, social withdrawal, etc.).
In order to take a preventative approach to relational aggression, New Prospect Elementary would like to invite all 4th and 5th grade girls and their moms (or a significant female role model in their life) to a special "Girls’ Night Out." Girls’ Night Out will be a fun and engaging way of bringing girls and their moms together to talk about relation aggression. The evening will begin with a pizza dinner, followed by a screening of the movie "Chrissa Stands Strong." Following the movie, there will be a presentation that will include helpful tips on how to cope with and prevent "girl bullying," and time for discussion. The evening will wrap up with a raffle!
Our hope is that our young girls and their role models will walk away empowered with knowledge. Girls’ Night Out will take place on Wednesday, October 28th, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. If you would like to attend Girls’ Night Out with your fourth or fifth grade daughter, please RSVP to Mrs. McLeod – [email protected]
