Reading: This week in reading, students will be discussing plot within guided reading groups. This focuses on the events of a story including the problem and solution. Students will also be learning about point of view, including first person point of view and third person point of view. Students will be reading several different texts to identify these standards within a story and working on activities in their interactive notebook and beyond to prepare for the upcoming assessment.
Writing: Students are continuing to write their personal narratives. They really are developing and turning out so great! Last week, students were given two checklists- one to revise and edit the content of their writing, and one to revise and edit the conventions of their writing. Both play important roles as we work towards a final published writing piece. We will be working on reviewing and sharing our writing to work towards this publishing stage in the next couple of weeks. We know that your children can't wait to share them with you- stay tuned! :)
Language Arts: This week, we will be reviewing coordinating conjunctions. Coordinating conjunctions connect two independent clauses using for, and, not, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS). We will also be learning about commonly confused words, also known as homophones, such as too, to, and two or their, there, and they're. It is important that we determine these differences on a regular basis. We will be integrating these grammar concepts throughout our writing in order to practice using them correctly.
Standards for this Week:
ELACC4RL3: Describe in depth a character, setting, or event in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text.
ELACC4RL6: Compare and contrast the point of view from which different stories are narrated, including the difference between first and third person narrations.
