Writing: Students are finishing up their personal narratives, as many have already published a final piece and are starting with a new one in this unit. We are looking forward to our Writing Celebration this Friday! The students will get to share their work with one another and show off all of their hard work throughout the unit. These pieces will also be graded and will be sent home in a few weeks for you all to read with your child.
Language Arts: This week, we will be reviewing the concept of strong vocabulary words through word knowledge. Students will identify action words, emotion words, and words about a topic to improve their reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. Students will also learn about synonyms and antonyms and will be expected to use these concepts in their writing to improve their word choice.
Standards for this Week:
4RL1: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
4L5c: Demonstrate understanding of words by relating them to their opposites(antonyms) and to words with similar but not identical meanings(synonyms).
4L6: Acquire and use accurately grade-appropriate general academic and domain-specific vocabulary, including words and phrases that signal precise actions, emotions, or states of being (e.g., quizzed, whined, stammered) and words and phrases basic to a particular topic (e.g., wildlife, conservation, and endangered when discussing animal preservation).
4W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
