Writing: This week, we are beginning our unit on Opinion writing! We have completed opinion pre-assessments to determine individual strengths and weaknesses within this type of writing. We will learn what an opinion piece is and how we can support our opinions accurately. Providing evidence will be a big component of this writing unit as well.
Language Arts: This week, we are learning about resources and skills we can use to identify unknown vocabulary words. We are working to better understand the concept of context clues and reference materials such as a dictionary and a thesaurus. We will be reinforcing these resources throughout the year.
Standards for this Week:
4RI2: Determine the main idea of a non-fiction text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text.
4RI3: Explain events, procedures, ideas, or concepts in a historical, scientific, or technical text, including what happened and why, based on specific information in the text.
4W1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
