Writing: This week, we are continuing our new unit on Opinion pieces. This unit deals with responding to our reading by sharing our opinion about a story. We will be working to incorporate evidence and support our point of views on these stories. This Wednesday, students will be taking Write Score as well. This will also help us to prepare for our upcoming Milestones.
Language Arts: This week, we are reviewing more of our standards from the beginning of the year. These concepts include relative pronouns, progressive verbs, helping/linking verbs, and ordering adjectives. These are important standards regarding conventions within writing. We will continue to incorporate and encourage these skills in students' writing every day.
Standards for this Week:
ELACC4RI5: Describe the overall structure (e.g. chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution) of events, ideas, concepts, or information in a text or part of a text.
ELACC4RI6: Compare and contrast a firsthand and secondhand account of the same event or topic: describe the differences in focus and the information provided.
ELACC4RI7: Interpret information presented visually, orally, or quantitatively (e.g., in charts, graphs, diagrams, time lines, animations, or interactive elements on Web pages) and explain how the information contributes to an understanding of the text in which it appears.
ELACC4W1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
ELACCL41a: Use relative pronouns (who, whose, whom, which, that) and relative adverbs (where, when, why).
ELACC4L1b: Form and use the progressive (e.g., I was walking; I am walking; I will be walking) verb aspects.
ELACC4L1c: Use helping/linking verbs to convey various conditions.
ELACC4L1d: Order adjectives within sentences according to conventional patterns (e.g. a small red bag rather than a red small bag).
