Writing: On Monday, we had our Writing Celebration as students shared their final published piece! We had a wonderful time listening to one another's personal narrative in small groups and enjoying the yummy snacks and refreshments. Thank you to those parents who sent in food and drinks! We will be starting our next unit on opinion writing in the coming weeks. Next week, we will have our on demand pre-assessment for this unit to graph in our data binders as well.
Language Arts: This week, we will be learning about similes and metaphors, and reviewing on synonyms and antonyms. We will continue to talk about word knowledge as well to reinforce the importance of a varied vocabulary in our reading, writing, and speaking. Students will be working on activities related to these standards and will incorporate them into their writing pieces as we finish up narratives.
Standards for this Week:
4RL1: Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
4L5c: Demonstrate understanding of words by relating them to their opposites(antonyms) and to words with similar but not identical meanings (synonyms).
4L5a: Explain the meaning of simple similes and metaphors (e.g. as pretty as a picture) in context.
4W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
