Writing: This week, we are continuing our unit on Opinion writing! We realized that is about that time in the school year where we need to revisit expectations for our writing block to remind students what we need to do during this time in order to be successful writers. We will spend this week doing a mini writers "boot camp" having a different focus each day. This includes sustained writing time expectations, sharing and conferencing expectations, and expectations for using our data binders and goals set at the beginning of each unit. We are continuing to write our opinion pieces throughout these lessons in order to work on those skills as well.
Language Arts: This week, we are learning how punctuation effects our sentences to demonstrate how important correct punctuation is. One of the best examples to demonstrate this concept is the difference between "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!". We are working on incorporating correct punctuation into our writing on a daily basis by pointing out and practicing these concepts.
Standards for this Week: 4RI6: Compare and contrast a firsthand and secondhand account of the same event or topic; describe the differences in focus and the information provided.
4W1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
4L3b: Choose punctuation for effect.
