Please check out the link to find a detailed description of what students will be studying throughout this next unit in reading. It's a comprehensive research unit that focuses on a specific era of history; The American Revolution.
Similar to reading, students will use the research they have gathered through their reading block to write an informational book about the "Big Idea" of the American Revolution, as well as select a specific sub-topic from that time period to teach a reader. The book will be subdivided into three chapters; two informational chapters and one opinion chapter. If students want to add additional chapters to their books, they will be encouraged to write a chapter using the genre of narrative to create an historical fiction story about their subtopic or to write a journal entry from the perspective of that time period.
For this next session of word work, which we call "Week 7", students will be focusing on the following:
Roots and Affixes
- tract, pre-, and -less
- Prepositions and Prepositional Phrases
Words Their Way
- Students will complete two word sorts in their differentiated workbooks.
