Writing: Students have worked so hard on our opinion unit over the last couple of months! This Tuesday, students are taking their on-demand post assessment for the opinion unit to show all of the growth we have made in our writing in comparison to our pre-assessments. This will count as a language arts quiz grade. We will be graphing these post-assessments when we return from break. We will have our Writing Celebration for our published opinion pieces on Wednesday. We will be taking our pre-assessment for our next unit on Informational Writing in January.
Language Arts: This week, we are reviewing relative adverbs, such as where, when, and why as they are used along with a relative clause to tell us more about a noun. For example, the puppy hid his bone where we could not find it. We will also learn about relative pronouns this week, such as who, whom, whose, which, and that. For example, the girl who ordered extra lemon is standing over there. Students will be expected to incorporate these skills into their writing on a regular basis in order to practice using them as well.
Standards for this Week:
4RL5: Explain major differences between poems, drama, and prose, and refer to the structural elements of poems (e.g., verse, rhythm, meter) and drama (e.g., casts of characters, settings, descriptions, dialogue, stage directions) when writing or speaking about a text.
4W1: Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons.
4L41a: Use relative pronouns (who, whose, whom, which, that) and relative adverbs (where, when, why).
