Presentations were terrific! Students got a good taste of what it was like to start with a research question about a topic, research using different resources, summarize information into their own words, and transfer their knowledge into a presentation. Now, students will start to research an Extreme Weather topic that is the direct opposite of their first topic. Within this research, students will learn how to compare and contrast new information that they discover about their topic with the information they learned from their previous topic.
Students are still continuing to finalize their personal opinion essays within Google Classroom. Once these are complete, students will begin to learn how to twist their opinion into more of a persuasive/argumentative essay. For example, if their personal opinion was "I think kids should go to school later in the day." Then, as an argument, they would change their thesis statement to say something similar to, "Kids should go to school later in the day because they need more sleep." With this new statement, students will need to research information about why sleep is important and try to write a persuasive argument that could possibly change a person's mind.
Students are continuing to work on the same choice board from last week. Choice Boards are due this Friday.
