This week, your child will be introduced to their next math standard of Unit 2,

*4.OA.2.*Students will also continue to work on multiplication standard

*4.NBT.5*

*.*These standards require your child to interpret multiplication equations as comparisons in word problems (ex: 35 = 5x7; 35 is 5 times as many as 7 and 7 times as many as 5). Students will also be working on multiplication of whole numbers up to 4 digits by a 1 digit whole number, and multiply two digit numbers by another two digit number. Your child will take notes over this standard this week. Hands-on activities will be provided for your child in order to make real-world connections to the skills they are learning in class.

**There will be a quiz over 4.OA.2 and 4.NBT.5 this Friday, September 25th!**The homework and standards for the week are written below.

__4.1 Standards for the Week:__*4.OA.2 -*Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.

*4.NBT.5 -*Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

**4.2****Unit 5: Fractions and Decimal...**

This week your child was introduced to their next standard of Unit 5:

*4.NF.6.*

*This standard requires the student to be able to convert a decimal fraction to a decimal (i.e.: 61/100 = .61). We will do this using visual models and number lines. We will also practice this skill within word problems. Your child will be taking notes on the standards throughout the week in their Math Journals. Please remember that these are wonderful study tools that we encourage the students take home (as long as they remember to bring them back!) The students have been taking very neat, detailed notes that I know will makes awesome study tools!*

**There will be a quiz over this standard this coming Friday, September 25!**These weekly check-ins let us see how your kiddo is progressing with the standards as we move through the unit :)

**Unit 1: Order of Operations...**

Students have continued to work on decimals. We will look over notes in our interactive notebooks on these standards and complete stations, including small group instruction, throughout the week in order to prepare for this assessment.
