Hello fabulous 4th Grade Parents! This week, your child will be introduced to their new math standard(s). Your child will practice these standards during class, but students will be expected to practice these skills at home, as well. Your children will always encouraged to bring home their math notebooks even when there is no math homework. During stations, your child will revisit the standards from last week, as well. 4.1: This week we are continuing Unit 1: Whole Numbers and Rounding in Computation... This week your child will be introduced to their next two standards of Unit 1: 4.NBT.3 and 4.NBT.4. Your child will be taking notes on the standards throughout the week. There will be a quiz over these two standards this coming Friday, August 28th! The standards and homework for the week are listed below! 4.1 Standards for the Week: 4.NBT.3 Use place value understanding to round multidigit whole numbers to any place. (4th grade expectations in this domain are limited to whole numbers less than or equal to 1,000,000.) 4.NBT.4 Fluently add and subtract multidigit whole numbers using the standard algorithm. (4th grade expectations in this domain are limited to whole numbers less than or equal to 1,000,000.) 4.1 Homework for the Week:
4.2: This week we are continuing with Unit 4: Operations with Fractions... This week your child was introduced to their next two standards of Unit 4: 4.NF.3c and 4.NF.3d . 4NF3c is all about adding and subtracting mixed numbers with like denominators, and 4NF3d is being able to add and subtract fractions within word problems. Your child will be taking notes on the standards throughout the week in their Math Journals. Please remember that these are wonderful study tools that we encourage the students take home (as long as they remember to bring them back!) The students have been taking very neat, detailed notes that I know will makes awesome study tools! There will be a quiz over these two standards this coming Friday, August 28th! These weekly checkins let us see how your kiddo is progressing with the standards as we move through the unit :) The standards and homework for the week are listed below! 4.2 Standards for the Week: 4.NF3 Understand a fraction a/b with a numerator >1 as a sum of unit fractions 1/b . 4.NF.3c Add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators, e.g., by replacing each mixed number with an equivalent fraction, and/or by using properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction. 4.NBT.3d Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole and having like denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models and equations to represent the problem. 4.2 Homework for the Week:
5.1: This week we are continuing Unit 1: Order of Operations... Students will learn about our next two standards for Unit 1: 5.NBT.1 and 5.NBT.2. This includes introducing the powers of 10 and their patterns, and then focusing on multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by powers of 10. We will take notes and complete practice problems throughout the week. There will be a quiz over these two standards on Friday, August 28th! The standards and the homework for the week are listed below. 5.1 Standards for the Week: 5.NBT.1: Recognize that in a multidigit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. 5.NBT.2: Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain pattersn in the placements of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whol number exponents to denote powers of 10. 5.1 Homework for the Week:
General Math Reminders: None this week! :) Have a great week! Mrs. Alterman, Ms. Densmore, Ms. Getzfred, Ms. Spaeth
