Hello fabulous 4th Grade Parents!

This week your child will be introduced to

The standards and homework for the week are listed below!

This week we are continuing with our Geometry unit! This week's standard is 4.G.3 In this unit, your child will learn all about lines, angles, triangles, geometric shapes and their attributes, and lines of symmetry. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations/activities that will really help bring geometry to life!

5.1: This week we will be continuing

This week, your child will be continuing to work on the current unit: Multiplying and Dividing Decimals! This week will be used for review of all of our Unit 3 standards. Students will use the study guide given to them last week in order to guide their learning, as we will review on several standards a day to prepare for the assessment on Friday. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations/activities that will help teach and reinforce these skills!

Have a great week!

**4.2 Math Curriculum**__: This week we will be introducing__**4.2****Unit 4: Operations with Fractions...**This week your child will be introduced to

**Unit 4: Operations with Fractions.**Our first two standards of Unit 4 will be:*4.NF.3.b*and*4.NF.3.a*. In this unit,*4.NF.3.b*is all about decomposing fractions into a sum of fractions and*4.NF.3.a*focuses on adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. Your child will be taking notes on the standards throughout the week in their Math Journals. Please remember that these are wonderful study tools that we encourage the students take home (as long as they remember to bring them back!) The students have been taking very neat, detailed notes that I know will makes awesome study tools! These weekly check-ins let us see how your kiddo is progressing with the standards as we move through the unit :).The standards and homework for the week are listed below!

__4.2 Standards for the Week:__*4.NF.3.b -*Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decompositions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8 ; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8 ; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8.*4.NF.3.a -*Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.__4.2 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (12/1/15) - IXL R2 & R3 (20-25 minutes of practice)
- Thursday (12/3/15) - Worksheet - Due Friday (12/4/15)

**4.2 Math Curriculum**__: This week we are introducing__**4.2****Unit 6: Geometry**This week we are continuing with our Geometry unit! This week's standard is 4.G.3 In this unit, your child will learn all about lines, angles, triangles, geometric shapes and their attributes, and lines of symmetry. **There will be a quiz over***4.G.3*this Friday, November 6th!__4.1 Standards for Unit 6:__*4.G.1*- Draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines. Identify these in two-dimensional figures.*4.G.2 -*Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.*4.G.3 -*Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.

__4.2 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (11/3/15) - IXL P29
- Thursday (11/5/15) - 4G3 Worksheet
**4.G.3 Quiz on Friday (11/6/15)**

*5.NBT.2*Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.*5.NBT.7*Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.__5.1 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (11/17/15) - Study for Assessment
