Hello fabulous 4th Grade Parents!

This week, your child will continue their current unit: Fraction Equivalents! For the remainder of this unit, we will be reviewing

This week we are continuing with our Geometry unit! This week's standard is 4.G.3 In this unit, your child will learn all about lines, angles, triangles, geometric shapes and their attributes, and lines of symmetry. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations/activities that will really help bring geometry to life!

5.1: This week we will be continuing

This week, your child will be continuing to work on the current unit: Multiplying and Dividing Decimals! This week will focus on word problems with multiplying and dividing decimals. Students will practice by highlighting key words, and identifying important information, as well as unnecessary information, within a word problem. They are also encouraged to see what the question is really asking for in our answer. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations/activities that will help teach and reinforce these skills!

Have a great week!

Mrs. Alterman, Ms. Densmore, Ms. Getzfred, Ms. Spaeth

*4.NF.1, 4.NF.2,*and*4.MD.2.**In this unit, your child has reviewed fractions, but has also learned how to find equivalent fractions using fraction models and visuals. Students this week will continue to compare fractions with different numerators and denominators by using >, <, or = to. Students will use benchmark fractions to help locate where a fraction should be placed on a number line and will be encouraged to use visual fraction models to aid in the process. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations prepared for your child to really understand what fractions are and how we can manipulate them!***There will be no quiz this Friday!****There will be a Unit 3 math assessment on Friday, November 20th!**Study guides will be coming home with your child this Friday, November 13th. Please encourage your child to study at home and review the math materials we have provided for them :).__4.1 Standards for Unit 3:__*4.NF.1 -*Explain why a fraction*a*/*b*is equivalent to a fraction (*n*×*a*)/(*n*×*b*) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.*4.NF.2 -*Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.*4.MD.2*- Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.__4.1 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (11/10/15) - IXL Q11 and Q12 (20-25 minutes)
- Thursday (11/12/15) - Fraction Review Worksheet (due Friday!)

Identify these in two-dimensional figures.*4.G.2 -*Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.*4.G.3 -*Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
