**4.1 Math Curriculum**

**This week we will be introducing**

__4.1:__**Unit 3: Fraction Equivalents...**

This week, your child will be introduced to their next unit: Fraction Equivalents! This week's standard is

*4.NF.1.*In this unit, your child will review fractions, but will also learn how to find equivalent fractions using fraction models and visuals. Students will also work to compare fractions with different numerators and denominators by using >, <, or = to. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations prepared for your child to really understand what fractions are and how we can manipulate them!

**There will be a quiz over**

*4.NF.1*this Friday, October 23rd!

__4.1 Standards for Unit 3:__*4.NF.1 -*Explain why a fraction

*a*/

*b*is equivalent to a fraction (

*n*×

*a*)/(

*n*×

*b*) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.

__4.1 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (10/20/15) - IXL Q6 & Q8 (20-25 minutes)
- Thursday (10/22/15) - Fractions Worksheet (due Friday!)
**4.NF.1 Quiz on Friday (10/23/15)**

**4.2 Math Curriculum**

__: This week we are introducing__

**4.2****Unit 6: Geometry**

This week, your child will be introduced to their next unit: Geometry! This week's standard is 4.G.1 In this unit, your child will learn all about lines, angles, geometric shapes and their attributes, and lines of symmetry. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations/activities that will really help bring geometry to life!

**There will be a quiz over**

*4.G.1*this Friday, October 23rd!

__4.1 Standards for Unit 6:__*4.G.1*- Draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines. Identify these in two-dimensional figures.

*4.G.2 -*Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.

*4.G.3 -*Recognize a line of symmetry for a two-dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts. Identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.

__4.2 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (10/20/15) - IXL P13, P30, P31
- Thursday (10/22/15) - Lines & Angles Worksheet
**4.G.1 Quiz on Friday (10/23/15)**

******5.1 Math Curriculum**

5.1: This week we are introducing

**Unit 3: Multiplying and Dividing Decimals**

This week, your child will be introduced to their next unit: Multiplying and Dividing Decimals! This week's standard is 5.NBT.2. In this unit, your child will continue to learn and practice multiplying and dividing decimals by the powers of 10, as well as multiplying and dividing decimals by whole numbers and other decimals. We have a variety of choice board activities and hands-on stations/activities that will help teach and reinforce these skills!

**There will be a quiz over**

*5.NBT.2*this Friday, October 23rd!

__5.1 Standards for Unit 3:__

*5.NBT.2*Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. Use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.

*5.NBT.7*Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.

__5.1 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (10/20/15) - IXL A11 & I2
- Thursday (10/15/15) - Powers of 10 Worksheet
**4.G.1 Quiz on Friday (10/23/15)**
