Hello fabulous 4th Grade Parents!

This week, your child will be introduced to their next math standards of Unit 2,

This week your child began reviewing for our unit 5 assessment on October 16th.

The standards and homework for the week are listed below!

5.1: This week we are continuing

Students are reviewing how to add and subtract decimals this week. They are constantly reminded to line up the decimals using the catchy phrase "Line up the dot and give it all you got!" to practice calculating them correctly. In addition, we have been working on our choice board activities related to decimals. The students are working hard on these and they are turning out really great! These will be graded for a classwork grade at the end of the quarter. The standards for this week and the homework for the week are listed below.

5.NBT.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.

Have a great week!

**4.1 Math Curriculum****This week we are continuing**__4.1:__**Unit 2: Multiplication and Division of Whole Numbers...**This week, your child will be introduced to their next math standards of Unit 2,

*4.OA.4**and 4.OA.5*. These new standards ask your child to find factors of a number, as well as patterns. Students will also continue to work on multiplication and division standards*4.NBT.5 and 4.NBT.6*throughout this week, as well*.*These standards require your child to multiply or divide to solve word problems, find whole number quotients and remainders up to 4-digit dividends and 1-digit divisors, and solve multi-step word problems with multiplication and division. Students will also continue to master multiplication of whole numbers up to 4 digits by a 1 digit whole number, and multiply two digit numbers by another two digit number. Your child will take notes over these standards this week. Hands-on activities will be provided for your child in order to make real-world connections to the skills they are learning in class.**There will be no math quiz this week!**The homework and standards for the week are written below.***Students will be getting their math study guides this Thursday, October 8th. The Unit 2 assessment will be taken on Friday, October 16th!**__4.1 Standards for the Week:__*4.OA.4 -*Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is prime or composite.*4.OA.5 -*Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself.*For example, given the rule “Add 3″ and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way*.*4.NBT.5 -*Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.*4.NBT.6 -*Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.__4.1 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (10/6/15) - IXL A5 & D4 practice for 20-25 minutes
