**This week we are continuing**

__4.1:__**Unit 2: Multiplication and Division of Whole Numbers...**

This week, your child will be introduced to their next math standards of Unit 2,

*4.OA.2, 4.OA.3, and 4.NBT.6*. Students will also continue to work on multiplication standard

*4.NBT.5*throughout this week, as well

*.*These standards require your child to multiply or divide to solve word problems, find whole number quotients and remainders up to 4-digit dividends and 1-digit divisors, and solve multi-step word problems with multiplication and division. Students will also continue to master multiplication of whole numbers up to 4 digits by a 1 digit whole number, and multiply two digit numbers by another two digit number. Your child will take notes over these standards this week. Hands-on activities will be provided for your child in order to make real-world connections to the skills they are learning in class.

**There will be a quiz over 4.OA.2, 4.OA.3, 4.NBT.5, and 4.NBT.6 this Friday, October 2nd!**The homework and standards for the week are written below.

__4.1 Standards for the Week:__*4.OA.2 -*Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison.

*4.OA.3 -*Solve multistep word problems posed with whole numbers and having whole-number answers using the four operations, including problems in which remainders must be interpreted. Represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding.

*4.NBT.5 -*Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

*4.NBT.6 -*Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

__4.1 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (9/29/15) - IXL E8 practice for 20-25 minutes
- Thursday (10/1/15) - Multiplication & Division Worksheet -
**Due Friday (10/2/15)**

__: This week we are continuing with__

**4.2****Unit 5: Fractions and Decimal...**

This week your child was introduced to their next standard of Unit 5:

*4.NF.7.*

*This standard requires the student to be able to compare and order decimals. We will do this using visual models and number lines. We will also practice this skill within word problems. Your child will be taking notes on the standards throughout the week in their Math Journals. Please remember that these are wonderful study tools that we encourage the students take home (as long as they remember to bring them back!) The students have been taking very neat, detailed notes that I know will makes awesome study tools!*

**There will be a quiz over this standard this coming Friday, October 2nd!**These weekly check-ins let us see how your kiddo is progressing with the standards as we move through the unit :)

The standards and homework for the week are listed below!

__4.2 Standards for the Week:__*4.NF.7 -*Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual model.

__4.2 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (9/29/15) - IXL U14 & U15 (20 minutes of practice)
- Thursday (10/1/15) - Worksheet on Ordering and Comparing Decimals

5.1: This week we are continuing

**Unit 2: Decimals...**

Students are learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals this week. They are learning how to line up the decimals using the catchy phrase "Line up the dot and give it all you got!". We also have looked at base ten blocks and estimation to further explore this concept. We will look over notes in our interactive notebooks on these standards and complete stations, including small group instruction, throughout the week. The standards for this unit and the homework for the week are listed below.

__5.1 Standards for the Unit:__5.NBT.7 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.

__5.1 Homework for the Week:__- Tuesday (9/29/15) - IXL: H3 & H4
- Thursday (10/1/15) - Worksheet

**General Math Reminders:**

Have a great week!
